Jay Slater: What has happened today?

The hunt for missing British teenager Jay Slater has today entered its second week with friends and family hoping for a breakthrough as efforts continue to find him in Tenerife.

Let’s recap what has happened this morning:

  • A new CCTV image has emerged of a figure at Santiago de Teide last Monday at around 6pm – around ten hours after Jay’s mobile phone last pinged
  • The grainy image was captured close to a church, San Fernando Rey, where Jay’s mother told MailOnline a man has come forward to say he saw someone matching her son’s description sitting on a bench with two men.
  • New video footage has also emerged of Jay dancing frenetically to loud techno music inside a Tenerife nightclub just hours before he disappeared.
  • In the clip, he is seen dancing shirtless in Papagayo nightclub which is at the end of the infamous Veronica’s Strip area of Playa de las Americas.
  • And detective-turned-TV investigator Mark Williams-Thomas, who probed the disappearance of Nicola Bulley, claimed Jay’s family is keen to accept his help after he reached out to them.

Jay’s employers – ‘Picture painted of him is just not true’

The building firm that employs Jay Slater has said the teenager is being misrepresented online following a slew of negative comments and conspiracy theories.

PH Build, a company which has hired the 19-year-old apprentice bricklayer from Lancashire, described Jay as a valued member of the team who is liked by everyone.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, the company said:

Our Jay is still missing!

We have decided to remove our last post due to all the negative comments and conspiracy theories.

Jay has been with us since he left school and is liked by all. He’s a valued member of our team and we stand by him.

The picture being painted of him is just not true. The fact is he’s a 19-year-old lad missing in a foreign country. He needs to be back home where he belongs. Come on Jay we are all praying for you.

Jay’s mother – I really hope I’m not taking son home in body bag

The mother of Jay Slater has addressed concerns over a GoFundMe Page set up for her son which has so far attracted more than £32,000 in donations.

In a Facebook post Debbie Duncan appeared to take aim at critics who have questioned the online fundraising page, which she said will cover the family’s efforts to find Jay in Tenerife.

I really am saddened by all your comments. You seem to be so bothered about this GoFundMe page. I really hope I am not taking my son home in a body bag.

The funds are not released and won’t be if not needed. I really cannot believe the British public are not supporting me in trying to find Jay.

This may happen to any of you one day. Very let down by you all.

She later updated the post and said:

Update!! Sorry that you have taken this the wrong way. I am overwhelmed with the generosity.

What I meant was VERBAL support. I really hope I don’t need this money. If its not needed it all gets refunded to the people who really did care.

The clip – similar to others previously obtained by MailOnline – shows the 19-year-old dancing frenetically to loud techno music.

At one point he appears to fall to the ground before getting up again, smiling at the after party which was held at Papagayo nightclub in the notorious Veronica’s strip at Playa de las Americas.

Rescuer – ‘It’s like searching for a needle in a haystack’

A British rescuer who has flown to Tenerife to help find Jay Slater has described the search as looking for a ‘needle in a haystack’.

Mountaineer Paul Arnott, 29, of Flitwick, Bedfordshire, responded to the family’s plea for help and hopes his expertise of navigating mountains may prove fruitful in the operation to find Jay.

But speaking to the BBC, Mr Arnott described the difficulties of the search as it entered its second week on the Spanish island.

It’s crazy, I have been in and out of buildings and down the ravines. But it’s like searching for a needle in a haystack.

You cannot believe how steep and big an area it is until you get out here. I thought there would be more people searching, though.

Jay Slater’s mother thanks GoFundMe well-wishers

Missing teenager Jay Slater, 19 mum speaks to mailonline appealing for any information to get her son back.

Debbie Duncan, Jay Slater’s mother, thanked well-wishers after a GoFundMe page set up to support search efforts passed its £30,000 target over the weekend.

Writing on the page, Debbie said, ‘your support means the world to us’ with money earmarked to cover the family’s expenses including accommodation on the island.

Hi everyone, this is Debbie, Jay’s mother. Thank you all for your generosity and kindness during this difficult time. I wanted to confirm that this is the only GoFundMe fundraiser approved by our family. The funds will remain on hold with GoFundMe until we post a further update on this page.

We are extremely worried and are doing everything we can to find Jay. Please continue to share our fundraiser far and wide. Your support means the world to us, and we are grateful for any help you can provide.

MailOnline reporters Nick Pisa and Arthur Parashar report Mark Williams-Thomas has offered to help the family of Jay Slater amid speculation online and TikTok sleuths flying from Britain to Tenerife to join the search.

Mr Williams-Thomas was previously lead investigator on the ITV Exposure documentary, The Other Side of Jimmy Savile, which revealed how the late BBC presenter systematically and disturbingly preyed upon young and vulnerable girls.

Jay Slater’s family ‘struggling with media interest’

Missing Teen Jay Slater with Family

A detective-turned-TV investigator who probed the disappearance of Nicola Bulley has claimed that Jay Slater’s family have switched off their phones after struggling with media interest and attention.

Mark Williams-Thomas, who also exposed Jimmy Savile’s evil crimes, has offered his expertise as the hunt for the missing 19-year-old who vanished after leaving a Tenerife nightclub enters its second week.

He claims Jay’s mother (pictured above) is keen to accept his help but said relatives were struggling with the attention placed on the search for Jay.

Mr Williams-Thomas tweeted:

Brief update : Jay Slater’s family clearly struggling with all the media interest and attention , have switched off all phones and cut contact . I am awaiting to speak to mum later today , but have had a response from close relative that mum is keen to accept my team’s help. Having worked with many families at crisis point when a loved one goes missing the family become the eye of the storm and it’s very very tough for them to manage all the enquiries on top of there own stress & worry.

The search for Jay Slater is now a week on since he was reported missing by friends.

Let’s take a look at the police search day-by-day:

  • Local police and mountain rescue teams begin searching Rural de Teno national park and his mother and brother board a flight to Tenerife to help find him.
  • Drones, dogs and a helicopter are deployed by the Spanish Guardia Civil to continue the search which is briefly moved to the Los Cristianos area following a potential sighting in the south of the island, but the hunt is swiftly moved back to the original spot.
  • Spanish police, mountain rescuers, firefighters and volunteers return to Rural de Teno to scour the national park
  • Spanish police reject an offer of support from Lancashire Constabulary after the force offered to help the search
  • Police and firefighters continue searching the mountains in Rural de Teno national park
  • Outbuildings at the bottom of a ravine in Rural de Teno become the focus of the search, close to where Jay’s phone last pinged

MailOnline has put together a timeline and a map of all possible sightings of Jay Slater as the hunt for the missing British teenager enters a new week.

  • Jay had been attending a three-days NRG festival due to end last Sunday with events at the Papagayo Beach Club in South Tenerife. Ahead of going back to the club, Jay sent his relative Isabelle Price a brief Snapchat video showing him and his surroundings in Arona, near the main party drag.
  • Pictures showed him walking through a sea of clubbers with sunglasses propped on his head at the festival where he was last seen by his friends on the Spanish island on Sunday night – while a photo showed him with friend Lucy Mae Law there.
  • Jay’s last Snapchat photo was posted, showing his hand holding a cigarette at accommodation near the Rural de Teno Park. He is thought to have headed to the £40-per-night AirBNB with two British men.
  • His friend Lucy – who has since led criticism of Spanish police – received a phone call from Jay at about 8am, telling her he was ‘lost in the mountains with no water’ and just one per cent battery on his mobile.
  • This was the last – so far – confirmed sighting, with the Airbnb’s owner Ophelia Medina Hernandez describing how she saw him walking at pace in the nearby village Masca – apparently heading away from Playa de las Americas.
  • Mr Slater’s phone died at about 8.50am, with his last known location registered to the Rural de Teno park near Masca where he had apparently stayed that night.
  • Jay is reported missing by friends including Lucy, before the UK Foreign Office is alerted later that day – and police launched mountain rescue operation.
  • A new potential sighting has now been reported by a man who says someone resembling Jay was sitting on a bench beside a church at Santiago de Teide, back closer towards Playa de las Americas.
