30 Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child Of Fire (2023)
Zack Snyder’s Sci-Fi Epic Comes Alive In 4K
Rebel Moon
- Release Date
- December 22, 2023
- Cast
- Djimon Hounsou , Sofia Boutella , Charlotte Maggi , Ray Fisher , Jena Malone , E. Duffy , Staz Nair , Doona Bae , Sky Yang , Charlie Hunnam , Cleopatra Coleman
Despite Rebel Moon‘s disastrous Rotten Tomatoes score, there are defenders of Zack Snyder’s sci-fi epic. The movie started with Snyder’s desire to make a Star Wars movie only for it to morph into an original idea, albeit one that borrows heavily from Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai.
The film follows a group of warriors who are brought together in the hopes of defending a small community from a galactic army. Snyder is a divisive filmmaker, but his visuals are often stunning and there are some breathtaking sequences in this movie.
While it has been criticized for its lack of character depth and slow-moving story, there will surely be a lot of interest in seeing what Netflix’s most expensive movie to date looks like in 4K. With Snyder’s famous slow-motion action sequences, audiences get the chance to luxuriate in the stunning photography that brings this intergalactic adventure to life.
29 Spaceman (2024)
Adam Sandler Plays A Lonely Astronaut Floating Through 4K Space
Spaceman
- Director
- Johan Renck
- Release Date
- March 1, 2024
Adam Sandler’s relationship with Netflix continues to provide interesting projects for the actor with Spaceman as the latest release. While there was a time when the idea of Sandler starring in a sci-fi movie called Spaceman might have suggested a wacky intergalactic comedy, this is another of his serious roles with his playing an astronaut on a solo space mission who is helped with his mental struggles by an alien (voiced by Paul Dano).
Spaceman is a quieter sci-fi movie that still benefits from the 4K presentation. It is a thoughtful and visually engrossing movie featuring another excellent performance from Sandler who continues to show incredible versatility as an actor. The 4K presentation offers a beautiful look at a very different kind of space adventure with stunning images reflecting the loneliness and beauty of the cosmos simultaneously.
28 Leave The World Behind (2023)
4K Lends More Unease To This End Of The World Satire
Leavethe World Behind attempts to balance some tricky tones which will not work for everyone, but it is an undoubtedly engrossing story to get sucked into. Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke star as a couple who take their kids on a weekend getaway at a secluded rental only for its owner (Mahershala Ali) to arrive with news that the world outside is collapsing.
Leave the World Behind uses real-life disasters to enhance the grounded feeling of this potentially apocalyptic attack. Along with the sense of unease throughout the movie, there is dark humor with generational conflict and differing perspectives. The 4K makes the quiet and intense scenes more impactful while also feeling visceral when the movie expands to the outside world. The sequence of the rogue ship suddenly crashing into the beach is a particularly impressive set piece that looks all the more impressive in 4K.
27 Damsel (2024)
Millie Bobby Brown Goes On A Stunning 4K Fantasy Adventure
Damsel
- Director
- Juan Carlos Fresnadillo
- Release Date
- March 8, 2024
Before returning to Netflix with Stranger Things season 5, Millie Bobby Brown headlines another big genre release for the streamer. Damsel is a clever retelling of the classic fairy tale trope of the young helpless princess who needs to be rescued from a dragon by a noble prince.
In this story, Brown is the would-be princess who is trapped in a dragon’s cave as a sacrifice and must fight for her survival. While the reviews for Damsel were not great, it is still a fun popcorn movie offered by the streaming platform while also providing a great starring vehicle for Brown.
The isolated setting is made more impressive with the 4K experience while also serving the action sequences well, throwing the audience into this exciting fantasy realm. Despite the fact that much of the movie takes place in a dark cave, the high-definition images bring it to life as a magical place filled with mysteries and danger.
26 Nimona (2023)
A 4K Animated Adventure That Mixes Sci-Fi And Fantasy
Nimona

- Release Date
- June 30, 2023
- Cast
- Chloe Grace Moretz , Riz Ahmed , Frances Conroy , Lorraine Toussaint , Beck Bennett , RuPaul , Indya Moore , Julio Torres , Sarah Sherman , Eugene Lee Yang
Netflix is somewhat underrated with its animated output and Nimona is a prime example. The movie mixes elements of sci-fi and fantasy with a story taking place in a kingdom in which a renowned knight has been accused of a terrible crime and relies on a shapeshifting young girl to help clear his name.
The movie is a touching story of acceptance and friendship with other timely themes that fit surprisingly well into this family-friendly adventure. However, it is the stunning visual style of the movie that deserves the 4K viewing experience as it presents big and hugely entertaining action sequences in a clear and mesmerizing way. The vibrant animation looks even better in the enhanced picture format. The unique blend of sci-fi and medieval creates a truly unique world that deserves to be presented in the most eye-catching way.

Much later in life, she decides to give it another attempt with the help of her best friend, played by Jodie Foster. Both Bening and Foster were nominated for Oscars in performances that highlight the strengths of the movie, mixing relatable and determined characters with humor and charm.
The swimming sequences in 4K make for breathless and intense moments where the audience can see the hard work and pain Nyad goes through to prove to the world what she can do. It shows the vastness of the ocean and the seemingly impossible task of crossing it, which makes Nyad’s journey all the more inspiring.

Maestro
- Release Date

Following the success of his directorial debut A Star Is Born, Bradley Cooper steps behind the camera again for another movie with a musical influence in Maestro. Cooper plays the famed American composer Leonard Bernstein, who was a complex and brilliant artist.
However, the movie is much more about the relationship between Leonard and Felicia Bernstein, his wife, and how they built a complicated yet loving marriage together. The movie thankfully breaks away from the conventional approach to biopics with an emotional, engrossing, and brilliantly acted movie.
Cooper’s directing talents are on full display in 4K with the movie’s vivid black-and-white sequences, the mesmerizing moments of Bernstein conducting, and even the intimate moments between the characters. It beautifully serves both the bigger, flashier moments of the movie, such as the musical number, as well as the more dramatic moments, like the intense Thanksgiving confrontation.

However, when others want her pig for their own nefarious purposes, it becomes a tale of saving something she loves from people with much more power than her. With a great cast including Steven Yeun, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Tilda Swinton, Okja was a Saturn Award nominee and one of Bong Joon-ho’s best movies to date.
This underrated gem is already visually striking in standard definition, but when it’s streamed in 4K, the magical and emotional adventure hits another level of beauty. Joon-ho’s mastery of filmmaking always makes the 4K presentation worthwhile, but this remains one of his wildest and most vibrant movies to date and is especially deserving of a high-definition presentation.
