Keanu Reeves has a busy schedule in the coming years, as he is currently tied to several upcoming movies and one television show, some of which haven’t received updates in years. However, it’s not unusual for the Hollywood star to be immersed in multiple projects, as Reeves has appeared in films like John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Always Be My Maybe, Toy Story 4, Bill & Ted Face the Music, John Wick 4, and even the nostalgic Matrix sequel The Matrix Resurrections in the past few years. Consequently, fans of the talented actor have a lot to look forward to.
Reeves is undoubtedly one of the most beloved actors in Hollywood, given his well-received blockbuster movies and apparent kind personality. Whereas Reeves was previously criticized for his acting skills towards the beginning of his career, many critics and moviegoers have come to appreciate his charisma and onscreen presence. Not only are his franchise films (like The Matrix and John Wick) celebrated, but Reeves’ original movies are also highly anticipated. Although Reeves may not return as Neo in the rumored Matrix 5, he has plenty of diverse and exciting projects lined up for him in the mid-2020s.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Reeves is voicing Shadow in the upcoming sequel
Reeves’ next project will be Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the highly anticipated third installment of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. The first two Sonic the Hedgehog installments were box office hits, with the original film from 2020 earning nearly $320 million worldwide and the 2022 sequel outperforming the first film, earning a worldwide total of more than $405 million. Now that Reeves has signed on to the franchise to voice Shadow the Hedgehog, the franchise should be able to perform even better at the 2024 box office right in time for a late December holiday release.

Shortly after John Wick Chapter 3 – Parabellum was released in May 2019, it was revealed that Keanu Reeves’ John Wick would be back for more with future projects. John Wick: Chapter 4 premiered in March 2023, and John Wick 5 has also been confirmed. According to Comicbook.com, Lionsgate announced in November 2023 that the fifth installment in the John Wick movie series was being written. Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Joe Drake explained:
“On the Wick side we got multiple spin-offs and
Wick Five.
We started to work on (it) right when the writer’s strike started, and we’ve gotten back to work as soon as it ended.”
It’s unclear if Reeves will reprise his iconic action hero role in John Wick 5 given the character’s ending in John Wick: Chapter 4. However, it’s hard to imagine Lionsgate attempting to develop a John Wick film without involving Reeves since John Wick is the face (and literally the name) of the franchise. Only time will tell what the upcoming fifth movie’s cast and story will entail, though.
John Wick 5
isn’t the only confirmed project in the
John Wick
franchise —
Ballerina
, a spinoff featuring Ana de Armas replacing Unity Phelam as Rooney from
John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum
, is also in the works.
Ballerina (Release Date: June 6, 2025)
The First Spin-off & Fifth Installment In The John Wick Franchise
Ballerina
Ballerina is a spinoff movie set in the universe of John Wick. Ana de Armas will play the titular role, a character who appeared in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum as a child ballerina who was being trained to become an assassin eventually. In Ballerina, the story follows de Armas’ character, who wants revenge on those who murdered her family.

- Ana De Armas , Anjelica Huston , Gabriel Byrne , Lance Reddick , Catalina Sandino Moreno , Norman Reedus , Ian McShane , Keanu Reeves
John Wick 5 isn’t the only confirmed project in the John Wick franchise — Ballerina, a spinoff featuring Ana de Armas replacing Unity Phelam as Rooney from John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, is also in the works. De Armas’ Rooney is a young assassin who sets out on a path of revenge when her family is murdered, not unlike Keanu Reeves’ John Wick, who will reprise his role in the 2025 action thriller film. Other Ballerina cast members include Anjelica Huston as “The Director,” Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick as Charon, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, and Ian McShane.
During an interview with Total Film (via GamesRadar), Reeves said his Ballerina role is a “handoff of stewardship.” The actor also claimed he would be wearing the John Wick suit again “briefly,” so Reeves’ part in Ballerina might not be extensive. But his involvement will serve to establish the spin-off in the John Wick movie series.
Ballerina
will be Lance Reddick’s last onscreen role as the actor died on March 17, 2023.
BRZRKR Live-Action Movie (Release Date: TBA)
Based On A Comic Series Created By Keanu Reeves & Matt Kindt
One of the most personal upcoming Keanu Reeves projects will be the live-action adaptation of BRZRKR, originally a comic book series co-created and co-written by Reeves and Matt Kindt, with illustrations by Ron Garney. The comics revolve around an immortal named B who, after being alive for more than 80,000 years, accepts a job for the United States government. Reeves is set to play B and produce the film adaptation, which was officially picked up by Netflix in January 2021. Meanwhile, while speaking to Collider, Reeves confirmed that Mattson Tomlin was writing the script.
In addition to producing and starring in BRZRKR, Reeves will lend his voice to the lead character in the spinoff anime series, which is also being produced by Netflix. Unfortunately, neither project has a release date as of the writing of this article. However, fans might even get more comic books (and adaptations) from Reeves in the future. When Keanu Reeves spoke with Screen Rant, he detailed loving the collaborative nature of the comic book process, not ruling a future comic book out.

Constantine 2 (Release Date: TBA)
A Sequel To The 2005 Movie
Multiple movies inspired by DC Comics have been released since Constantine first debuted in 2005, so many have wondered if the Keanu Reeves movie would ever get a sequel. The comic book character John Constantine has even been played by other actors in separate projects (like Matt Ryan in Legends of Tomorrow on The CW). However, Reeves’ interpretation of the iconic anti-hero will finally return because Warner Bros. is developing a Constantine sequel featuring the return of Reeves and director Francis Lawrence.
The
Constantine
sequel will not be a part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe.
Reeves answered a fan in a Reddit AMA and revealed that he had spoken with DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn about the possibility of a sequel. Other than that, the actor hasn’t revealed much about the upcoming project. In October 2023, Lawrence spoke about Constantine 2 with Gamespot. The director explained:
“So Constantine 2 got obviously held up by the writers strike. And we had to jump through a bunch of hurdles to get control of the character again, because other people had control of the Vertigo stuff. We have control. Keanu and [screenwriter] Akiva Goldsman and I have been in meetings and have been hashing out what we think the story is going to be, and there’s more meetings of those that have to happen — the script has to be written — but really hoping that we get to do Constantine 2, and make a real rated R version of it.”
Rally Car (Release Date: TBA)
A NASCAR Movie That Has Been In Development Hell For Years
Rally Car, an apparent throwback to action-focused Keanu Reeves movies like Speed, has been in production limbo for a few years. The film Rally Car was greenlit in 2017, but was searching for a director, eventually landing on Taken 2 and Transporter 3 director Olivier Megaton. According to a February 2017 The Hollywood Reporter article, Reeves will be playing a former hot-shot NASCAR driver who finds himself in a rally car race in China. There’s no word yet on a release date or casting information. Plus, it’s unclear why there have been delays in moving forward with filming or distribution.
Another one of Keanu Reeves’ projects is currently in development purgatory — the television series
Rain
, based on Barry Eisler’s
John Rain
book series.

Rain (Release Date: TBA)
A TV Series That Has Also Been In Development Hell
Another one of Keanu Reeves’ projects is currently in development purgatory — the television series Rain, based on Barry Eisler’s John Rain book series. In 2014, Deadline reported that Reeves would play the show’s lead, as well as one of the producers. Suggesting the influence of John Wick, the future project would feature Keanu Reeves as John Rain, a half-Japanese, half-American contract assassin whose specialty is making it look like his targets died of natural causes. However, Rain does not have a release date yet, nor has it gone into production.
Past Midnight (Release Date: TBA)
A Vigilante Superhero Feature Film Directed By Rick Famuyiwa
Another Keanu Reeves project set to come to Netflix is Rick Famuyiwa’s upcoming film — Past Midnight. The script will be written by T.J. Fixman (Ratchet & Clank) and produced by Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo. Past Midnight sounds like a return to familiar territory for Reeves and entirely new territory for Famuyiwa as it was described as a new take on the classic vigilante superhero story. There are no further details on casting or Reeves’ character, and the most recent update came in March 2018 when Past Midnight was announced.
Rick Famuyiwa has directed movies like
Dope
and episodes of television shows, including
The Chi
and
The Mandalorian
.
Good Fortune (Release Date: TBA)
Aziz Ansari’s Upcoming Comedy Film
Comedian Aziz Ansari is set to make his feature film directorial debut with Good Fortune, a comedy written by Ansari and starring the likes of Ansari, Keanu Reeves, Seth Rogan, and Keke Palmer. Deadline also reported in April 2024 that Sandra Oh had joined the cast of Good Fortune. Sadly, the upcoming movie’s story and characters are being kept hush-hush, but filming began in January 2024, so more information about Good Fortunate is coming soon.
Aziz Ansari is known for his role as Tom Haverford in

The Entertainment System Is Down (Expected 2026)
Currently in pre-production
Keanu Reeves will be a part of a star-studded ensemble cast in the next film from Oscar-nominated writer and director Ruben Östlund, best known for his recent satirical comedies The Square (2017) and Triangle of Sadness (2022), which was nominated for Best Picture. Reeves will star alongside Joel Edgerton, Kirsten Dunst, Woody Harrelson, and Nicholas Braun in what is expected to be another laugh-out-loud dark comedy from Östlund. The film, titled The Entertainment System Is Down, is currently in pre-production and will not be released until 2026, but it is still one of Keanu Reeves’ most anticipated projects.
